That waistline treatment, where the fabric is slashed and gathered into a dart, was very popular for slips and nightgowns. I've seen it several times in my Woman's Institute booklets.
Thanks for sharing! I had no idea but now I will be on the lookout for it. I actually think it's quite flattering.
